March 27th – Sydney, Nova Scotia
Apr 1st, 2018 by rallyadmin
Today we run for the ferry. We’re scheduled on an 11:30 PM overnight crossing to Port aux Basques, NL that takes 6 1/2 hours. We have cabins scheduled so that we can sleep and head for St. Johns as soon as we get off the boat. En route, we’re planning on doing some sight-seeing.
Mark F has wanted to do the Cabot trail which is a road that drives the perimeter of a peninsula on the north coast of Nova Scotia. It’s about 6 hours but that’s exactly why we added a slack day to Sydney. Keep the grinding mileage to a minimum and actually see something.
Along the way, Mark F has a recommendation for a restaurant. The restaurant is suppoesed to have the best fried clams anywhere. We stop. We order a sampling of the menu for the four of us which ends up being way more food than we can possibly eat. But the clams are really good, maybe the best anywhere.
The Cabot Trail is a beautiful road with magnificent scenery. There’s no one here now but in the summer there are cabins, resorts and camps for hiking, biking, fishing and general exploring. Lots of whale watching but probably not too much swimming.
We’re about an hour from the end of the Cabot Trail and my phone and Getty’s phone beep a message. The channel crossing tonight is canceled. The sea state is to high to be safe. Our reservations are moved to tomorrow. If. Maybe. Check later for more info.
We get into Sydney and park in a Hampton Inn. A few scotches and out to dinner across the skyway to the convention center. A new message from Atlantic Marine says that we are schedule to cross tomorrow at 10 AM. Okay!
We try to figure out a new route now that we going to land in late afternoon and there’s not much to offer after we leave Port aux Basques. Whatever. We can always stay in Port aux Basques.
Back to the hotel and some sleep. I could be a long day tomorrow.,
