April 3rd – Happy Valley/Goose Bay, Newfoundland

I wait until about 10 to walk over to the shop. Getty joins me. He’s getting cabin fever, too. Yesterday they found the only ice-road in the area and Rabbit 2.0 got stuck on it. They managed to extract themselves with a little help from a passerby. But without a snow machine there’s not much to do here in the dead of winter.
Scott and Dennis, the tow truck driver, are both behind the counter. Good news. We found the problem. The pressure sensor on the first fuel filter is completely gone. “Never seen or even heard of that before. We ordered a new sensor and a new fuel filter yesterday and it’ll should be here sometime today by air freight. As soon as it gets here we’ll put it in and with some luck you’ll be good to go.” That’s great news. And then the dreaded “We’ll call you later.”
We walk back to the motel and renew the rooms for another night. And then go driving about the booming metropolis of Happy Valley/Goose Bay. We end up at El Greco, the pizza house that we got the Saturday night pizzas from.
It’s closed but when we walk in the owner, a Greek (ie, El Greco) says that he’ll feed us if we order pizza as that’s the only thing he’s prepared to make so early in the day. (I’ve never met a Greek restaurant person who will actually refuse to serve you. That could be why they’re usually successful.) Sure, with cokes, parakalo.
The pizza is quite good and wehen we’re done it’s back to the motel. Around 4:00 I call the shop and the part hasn’t arrived yet. But as soon as it does, we’ll get it in and give you a call. But by 6:30 there’s no call and the assumption is that the part hasn’t arrived yet.
Off for dinner. Another night in Paradise, Arctic Version. I’ll check again in the morning. Meanwhile, I better Google residency requirements.
