Uber shows up on time at 10:15 for the ride to the airport. We have a flight to Newark just before 1 PM. We’ve booked a flight on a French boutique airline, La Compagnie, that flies from Newark to Paris, Milan and Nice. It’s an all business class airline flying Airbus 321 Neo aircraft. They were running a sale earlier in the year and we went for it.
They have great reviews and they were about $1,000 a seat lower than competing options. The only issue up front is that you can’t (or I wasn’t able) to book a connecting flight to Newark with them. That meant that we had to book a flight to Newark (AA, of course), get our bags, leave security, reenter security and check in for the flight to Milan.
In order to make sure that our bags actually arrived in Newark with us, I booked an early flight so that if our bags didn’t make the flight that we were on, there would still b another later flight that our bags would make it to us before we had to check in with the Milan flight. That left us with about a 5 hour wait between our arrival in Newark and out check in with La Compagnie. Whatever. Of course, our bags did make it on our flight from Charlotte which was good.
At about 9’ish PM we boarded the flight and actually pushed back from the gate about 10 minutes early. Being an all business class flight, there are much fewer passengers to load and the one that are on the flight aren’t the less experienced passengers that have issues loading their bags and finding their seats.
The seats are every bit as comfy as they should be for long flight business class flights. Full lay down sleeper seats with big displays for movies on the setback in front with the obligatory remote and touchscreen. The meals were somewhat bland and there aren’t any spirits on offer but the wine is good and there’s plenty of it.
B starts a movie and at the end hits the recline button to layout the seat and falls asleep. I persist with a movie but I’m dozing off so I give up and try the lay down seat. It’s comfortable enough and I try sleeping but only really doze on and off for an hour or more. I finally give up and try a movie.
