Sri Lanka 2022

Here we go again. Now that the pandemic has finally broken it’s grip (or, more likely, we given up on isolation), a new adventure is about to start. This time, it’s off to Sri Lanka for a tuk-tuk trip with my lunatic Brit friends, Clemo, Pinky, Paul F, Paul B, Brim, Stewie and Darren and some Brits that I haven’t met yet: David V, John W and Mike P.
I leave on the evening of the 7th, travel for some 32 hours through New York and Doha, Qatar, UAE and arrive in Columbo. The mob assembles along the way with all joining up on the 9th in Negombo, suitably worn, sleep-deprived and, most likely, if the past is any predictor of the future, hungover.
I can hear you asking the most obvious question: what’s a tuk-tuk? (Actually, the most obvious questions is WTF but that’s for another post.) See this link (https://www.tripsavvy.com/the-tuk-tuk-1458390) for an explanation and some lovely pictures. The begs the second, metaphysical question: why? I really don’t know but as Clemo, the “organizer” and head lunatic of this fiasco has said, and i quote, “Well we’ve done 4 and 2 wheels. 3 makes perfect sense! Well, makes sense to us but not to anyone else I tell. Which makes it all the more reason we do these things.” I agree completely.
A side note: I’ve asked numerous other people if they’d be interested in joining us. Not surprisingly, responses ranged from “No.” to “Hell, no!! Are you out of your f*&king mind?” (I would have thought that that question had already been answered, quite a few times, actually.) There might be a message there.
For those of you who are Facebook-addicted (you know there are therapies for this type of problem), try this link https://www.facebook.com/Thetuktukrun for more reporting on this daft adventure.
Well, that’s it for this kick-off post. More as things develop.
