Cagliari (later) – June 10, 2023

Late yesterday we arrived just after 6PM in Cagliari and started a search for our room for the night. Maps didn’t have much trouble finding the location but parking was another issue entirely.
The room is in another upscale residential neighborhood and that means finding free over-night parking is difficult and what is there is usually taken. I double park the car and drop Barbara and the bags. We have instructions for the keypad that opens the front door of the building and the keycode works “most” of the time.
The instructions tell us to press a doorbell key 5 times. That doesn’t work on the first try or the second try. On the third try, the door opens after pressing the doorbell 3 times. Whatever. We move the bags into the building and up to the 2nd floor where we have a true keypad and a six digit code from the instructions to enter. That doesn’t work. What a surprise.
I leave Barbara and go to the car which has to be moved because it’s blocking a driveway which is a serious no-no. There’s no parking on the main road in front of the building and no parking garages nearby. Take a right, head up the hill, No open spaces. Finally near the top, I find a couple of open spots and park the car as close to the building as I can find. Back to the building and the keypad fight.
Barbara has been on the phone with the contact for the apartment trying assorted codes to get in to the apartment with out much success. A couple comes off the elevator and opens the apartment door with a keycode that works and lets Barbara in to the apartment. This doesn’t get us into our room in the apartment which also has a keypad entry. The contact finally gives us another keycode that gets us into out room and the contact tells us that she is sending someone over to resolve the situation.
About 10 minutes 10 later a very nice young woman arrives, introduces herself and apologizes profusely. She and the contact finally do get the keycodes straightened out. We test them on both the apartment door and the room door and they both work multiple times. Hooray!
We unpack and chill for a few hours and then head out for food. Food turns out to be a bit of an issue in this neighborhood. Since this is mostly a residential area, most of the food locations are for takeout. We walk down to the next main boulevard and find one of the few restaurants in the area. It turns out to be a very nice restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. We choose the outdoor in early evening setting sun. Good pasta and a nice bottle of wine.
It’s been a day and after the walk back to the apartment we face the dreaded “push the button 5 times” problem again. But this time every thing works as it’s supposed to and we get into or room without drama. Tomorrow a day off in Cagliari
