January 20, 2024 – TanTan Plage, Morocco
Jan 29th, 2024 by rallyadmin
We are up before sunrise and the skies have cleared. It’s going o be a beautiful day. Breakfast in the dining room of the cafe, load the car and start down the mountain.
The road doesn’t seem to devastated on the way back down. As the sun comes up, though, the extent of the devastation is all the more obvious. There is no one moving yet in the survivor tent camps on the way down. There probably is nothing for any of them to do but wait.
Once down the mountain, we continue on highway N10. The route is boring but steady. Clemo’s Land Raver is hanging in there but things aren’t getting any better though not getting much worse. We drive for a few hours and then stop at a cafe to let the engine cool off. We’re driving at about 80 kph, sometimes slower, and often with the Land Raver drsfting our Land Rover. The day stretches on.
We arrive in TanTan Plage while the sun is still up, a nice change. Clemo has found an RV camp on the beach that has some guest rooms. Last year, we stayed in the only hotel in town that we could find and it was terrible.
Last year, we found a pizza shop for dinner. Nothing else was open. This year, we plan to make dinner from rat packs in the rooms. Pinky and I have a room that is small, two twin beds, and no en suite toilet. Clemo and Elaine have a multi-room apartment with en suite, a bed room, a separate kitchen and a sitting area. It’s good to be king.
The toilet facilities are old but clean and serviceable. There’s plenty of hot water (often not so much) so I take a shower. Clean clothes and then a rat pack dinner with some leftover wine from our ride through France.
Tomorrow, a turn to the south and Boujdour.
